In July 2004 I embarked on a project with my dear friend, talented artist
Sara Zastera who was in Sweden at the time. We explored different aspects
of communicating purely over the phone through three pieces. I then sent my
completed works to Sweden where they were exhibited with Sara's

studio

The first piece we painted together in real time- Sara in Sweden, me in Australia. Our aim here was to negotiate and produce two finished pieces that were identical without seeing each others work.

Every decision had to be agreed on and worked through by explaining what we were seeing and in which direction we wanted the piece to head.

For the next piece we set up a still life. We each had four bottles and eight lemons and over the phone set up exactly the same scene..."Lemon number two is just touching the top of lemon three and leaning northwest against bottle two"...

We then settled on an imaginary line down the middle of the still life. Sara painted the left side, I painted the right side and they were then hung together as one piece once in Sweden.

Finally, we described our studios to each other and then interpreted our impression.
